Guide to Getting an Epic Certification

More than 250 million patients have a current electronic record in Epic. You can see why Epic certifications are an esteemed qualification for many organizations and can be a big part of a successful career in healthcare IT.
Being an Epic Staffing Partner, I am asked very often by strong professionals how they can acquire an Epic certification and I wish I could say it was easy! Epic doesn't allow just anyone to have access to their training and certification courses, but it is worth it.
Here are ways to get your Epic certification:
You can apply directly to work for Epic at their headquarters in Verona, WI. This would require that you are onsite for the duration of your employment. Find open positions here: https://epic.avature.net/careers.
Work for a hospital or clinic that has a contract with Epic. They would then sponsor you and send you to Wisconsin to get Epic certified in a specific module. You would then need to complete on-site training and pass a proficiency exam (check out the local market for hospital IT jobs and paying close attention to organizations that are already Epic). If you do already work for a hospital that is planning an Epic implementation, the easiest path to an Epic certification is to become an Epic Credentialed Trainer or to get an Epic Proficiency, which can be completed without having to travel to Epic's headquarters.
If you don’t work at a hospital that currently has Epic, look for go-live support jobs, and entry-level IT jobs.
