Whether going away on a business trip for a day or week(s), everyone has the fear of forgetting an important item while packing. If you follow the tips below, you won't be the one having to pay overweight baggage fees or running to the nearest department store after landing!

1) Be Prepared

Knowing when and where you’re traveling to and the length of the trip is essential information to have in order to pack the correct number of outfits, weather-specific necessities, and the size of travel bag to bring. If you find that you need to go out and buy items to be prepared for the trip, do this at least a week in advance.

2) Make a List

To avoid forgetting items, make a list and check the items off as you pack them! When writing your list, keep in mind what is essential vs. what is not. If you know the weather is going to be 95 degrees and sunny, then it is safe to leave your parka behind, but don't forget your sunscreen :)

3) Loading Strategy

Before you start checking items off your list, thoughtfully plan how you intend to fill your bag. The goal here is no wasted space. Fill it to the brim, but systematically. The best way to do this is with three layers. Fold all your items in a way that will save the most space, avoiding bulky folding styles.

• Layer one: Jackets and Trousers

• Layer Two: Shirts

• Layer Three: Sundries (Everything else)

*You may not want to put shoe soles directly onto your shirt fronts, so slip them in a plastic bag. If you have to bring large jackets or boots, wear these items on the day of travel.

4) Double-Check

Hopefully by now, you are all packed and ready for your trip! Before leaving the house, double-check that you have everything you need. This includes luggage, laptop, cellphone, wallet, important work documents, etc. The only thing left to think about now is having a safe and productive trip!
