TruTeam 2020 Book Club Reviews!
(Originally posted on LinkedIn)
Each quarter at TruTeam, we choose a book that will inspire us both professionally and personally, and every week we get together for our book club to review and share what made the biggest impact on us that week. We have an ongoing commitment to becoming the best we can be and hey, the best leaders are readers right? Take a look below at the books we read in 2020 and our key takeaway!
Leading An Inspired Life by Jim Rohn
Key Takeaway: "Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for fewer problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.”
An absolute classic and one of my favorites for the year. This book will help you dive deep into your personal and professional goals to find out exactly what's most important to you right now and for your future. This book is essential reading for anyone who is seriously interested in his or her personal development, and who is committed to taking the necessary action to achieve what they really want. I have re-read, and re-listened to this book multiple times and I always get something different and valuable each time.
The Last Dance - Michael Jordan Documentary
Key Takeaway: Be the hardest working person in the room.
Michael Jordan is one of, if not the, greatest athlete that has ever lived, and that is because of his commitment to being the best! He worked the hardest, day in and day out, to focus on the areas that he needed to improve on. As a young player, he was not the most naturally talented. One of the reasons that he became the greatest of all time was because he never stopped putting the extra work in. Even at the highest moments in his career, he continued to work harder and put more time in than anyone else around him. In everyday life, it can be easy to get comfortable in areas that come naturally to you. To be the best version of yourself, you have to continue putting in the work every single day. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, how are you going to use it? The extra work and dedication make all the difference between being ordinary or being like Mike.
Fanatical Prospecting by Jeb Blount
Key Takeaway: "If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it, go out and get busy!"
What I loved about this book was the simplicity and bluntness of it. Jeb does not over complicate things, and he really takes it back to basics. In a world where sales and prospecting advice is very saturated and complicated, Fanatical Prospecting provides simple habits and action items that anyone can implement on day one. Whether that is just picking up the phone and cold calling, or organizing your day with key times dedicated to prospecting and prospecting only, you will absolutely walk away with a refreshed outlook on prospecting. This book will show you how to stop being your own worst enemy, to stop talking yourself out of cold calling, and to stop making excuses.
You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero
Key Takeaway: "If you do the absolute best you possibly can and come from a place of integrity, then you can be proud of yourself and not give a damn what anyone else thinks."
This book is all about becoming the most authentic, unstoppable and confident version of yourself. Jen offers some great insight from personal experience on how to get uncomfortable, stop making excuses and get what you really want. Jen has a sort of "slap you in the face" realness that is refreshing and uncomplicated. It’s a self-help book with some attitude, but the good kind! The motivating, let’s make this happen kind. We all need someone to hold up a mirror sometimes and give it to us straight! Whatever challenge you are trying to overcome, this book will give you zero-fluff steps on how to ignore the haters and become the most badass you can be.
